Founded in 2000, the RMFE was a successful pet Rat and Mouse club that held shows in the Midwest USA, published an informative full length magazine that was shipped world wide, and was responsible for introducing pedigreed animal registration to the rat and mouse fancy! Due to numerous reasons, some of which can be read about in this Letter to the Fancy, the only person able to run RMFE at the time found it necessary to temporarily leave the pet fancy.
The most important function of the club was that of education, but the money needed for memberships (for the magazine, holding events, etc), and the perceived "status" some pet fanciers saw in pedigree registration or showing, led to some false accusations that our informative articles were based on politics, rather than careful research and concern for the well-being of the animal population. Because of this, the RMFE will no longer take memberships, sponsor shows, or otherwise act in the traditional role of a club. Instead, the focus is on the sharing of knowledge gained through experience and research, for the benefit of the animals. RMFE and Rodentfancy.com provide the fancy with the following:
